Dave B, hailing from Seattle, Is a multi-talented MC, singer, and producer who blends smooth, almost lo-fi, RnB based hip-hop beats with even smoother vocal melodies and harmonies. Vocally, he reminds me of a mix between Frank Ocean, Chance The Rapper, with a dash of J. Cole. His debut EP “Punch Drunk” from 2015 was received very well. He was named the Artist of the Year by Seattle City Arts Magazine. He also got great reviews by Pigeons And Planes, NPR, FADER, XXL. In 2016, He opened up a tour for Macklemore, Which, despite what we all may think of Macklemore, is a great step in his career. In 2016 He also released the more sappy RnB album “Tomorrow”, and in 2017 followed with “Pearl”, a darker more macabre testament of his skill and range. His most recent album “Bleu” Came out about a month ago, with production from underground hiphop / electronic / RnB icons ESTA, and SANGO is maybe the best work from him yet. The sneaky drums over the sexy organ and rhodes on the track “Break” really compliment his voice… or maybe his voice is complimenting the organ and drums.. Either way, incredible album! “Grownish” is a nice anthem for young adults trying to decide whether they are really grown ups yet, hanging on to the childish ways for nostalgia maybe.. Dave B. has an exciting future ahead of him and I truly believe he has something unique about him that can only be discovered by the listeners as they explore his exciting and varied catalogue. My favourite songs are Leaves, Dead End, Right Here, Scrollin’, and Break.
